The Amazing Underwater Forest of Lake Kaindy
What makes Lake Kaindy truly remarkable is that it contains an underwater forest. Visible on the lakes surface are the tall, dried-out tops of submerged Spruce trees that rise above the water’s surface like the masts of sunken ships. They are the only sign of the amazing frozen forest below the water’s surface.
The water is so cold (even in summer the temperature does not exceed 6 degrees) that the pine needles remain on the trees, even after a hundred years of being submerged. During the winter, the lake freezes and becomes a popular spot for ice diving.
The lake is 400 meters long and is located in Kazakhstan’s portion of the Tian Shan Mountains, about 129 km from the city of Almaty. The lake was created after an earthquake in 1911 triggered a large landslide blocking the gorge and forming a natural dam.
You should have heard by now from the news and at twitter about what happened in my country…
The age of green is upon us. We have reached a point in our human evolution where science, math, and creative genius have discovered a way to suspend a living forest in mid air. The answer to city pollution is now Stefano Boeri’s Bosco Verticale, the world’s first 27-story microclimate apartment towers currently under construction in Milan, Italy. Built to function as city air purifiers, these lush apartments will include over 900 trees, 5,000 bushes, and 11,000 plants throughout the tower balconies. Each perch of life will aid in reducing city noise, moderating atmospheric temperatures, absorbing CO2 emissions, and acting as an energy sustainer for seasonal weather shifts.
This would be nice
sometimes no matter what I say, it still doesn’t matter and it’s like I’ve said less when I try to say more.
I just typed in that phrase (not skinny), hopeful to find photos of full figured chicks like myself or something inspirational. Instead, 9/10 of the posts of girls hating themselves, wanting to starve, never eat again and not have a roll of fat on them. You know what that does? It makes your skin sag and it makes you look 5-10 years older. Why do we kill ourselves if even when we are skinny, we still hate ourselves? Who is going to love us if we can’t love ourselves? Ladies, you look fine. Care about your health, not about your rib cage showing. I’m sorry that I can’t hold my hand out or give all these sad girls a hug. Hopefully someone does..
…Or rather, I felt that everything - all the buildings and all the people were intensely real, wildly alive and totally meaningful, and I alone was a dream, a figment which had never really touched anything. I felt that I was not, never had been and never would be a living part o this overpoweringly solid and meaningful world around me.
